The most useful Orlando FL kitchen cabinet storage solutions are pull-out shelves in base cabinets and pantries, working corner units, vertical tray dividers, door-mounted racks, and a moisture-resistant setup under the sink. Many of these can be added to the cabinets you already have. Central Florida adds two concerns most storage guides skip: humidity, which swells cheap materials, and pests, which find open food fast. Below are the options, which ones fit existing cabinets, and what to choose for a Florida kitchen.

Common storage problems in Orlando-area kitchens

Kitchens in Central Florida homes tend to share a few storage problems:

  • Deep base cabinets with fixed shelves, where the back half is unreachable.
  • Blind corners in L-shaped and U-shaped kitchens.
  • Soffits above the uppers in older homes, which limit upper cabinet height.
  • Swollen sink bases from slow leaks and humidity.
  • Shallow or missing pantries in condos, townhomes and older ranch homes.
  • Pantry pests such as ants and pantry moths, which thrive in warm, humid weather.

Pull-out solutions for existing cabinets

Pull-outs are the most common upgrade because they fit most existing boxes.

  • Roll-out shelves behind base doors bring the back of the cabinet forward. Two per cabinet is typical.
  • Pull-out trash and recycling in a base cabinet, usually 15 to 18 inches wide.
  • Pantry pull-outs with several shelves on one frame, for tall pantry cabinets.
  • Narrow pull-outs for spices and oils in a slim base next to the range.

How to measure for a pull-out:

  1. Measure the clear opening between the face frame or hinges, not the inside width of the box.
  2. Measure the depth from the back of the face frame to the back wall of the cabinet.
  3. Check for plumbing, the garbage disposal or a dishwasher supply line in the way.
  4. Note whether the hinges allow the door to open past 90 degrees; some pull-outs need a full opening.

Corner cabinet solutions

Corner hardware is sized to specific cabinets. If your corner is an unusual size, measure carefully before ordering, or plan the corner during a cabinet replacement.

Organizers that make every cabinet work harder

  • Vertical tray dividers for sheet pans, cutting boards and platters, in a narrow base or above the oven.
  • Drawer inserts for utensils, knives and spices.
  • Door-mounted racks for spices, lids, foil and cleaning supplies.
  • Shelf risers in uppers to double the usable height for plates and mugs.
  • Under-sink organizers that wrap around the drain and disposal.
  • Pull-down shelves in high upper cabinets.

Materials that handle Florida humidity

Central Florida humidity and the occasional slow leak are hard on cabinet interiors. What holds up:

  • Plywood or sealed cabinet boxes, especially at the sink base. Raw particleboard swells when it gets wet and does not recover.
  • Coated metal or stainless organizers instead of bare steel, which can rust in a damp sink base.
  • Solid plastic or polymer bins and trays under the sink, where they can be wiped out.
  • Wood pull-outs with a sealed finish, not raw wood.
  • A waterproof sink base liner or tray to catch drips before they reach the cabinet floor.
  • A range hood vented outdoors, which keeps grease and moisture out of nearby cabinets.

If you see swelling or stains in the sink base, check the supply lines, the drain trap and the dishwasher connection before adding organizers. Many older Orlando-area homes also have aging galvanized or polybutylene supply piping that is worth inspecting during any kitchen work.

Pantry storage for Florida kitchens

  • Pull-out pantry cabinets 12 to 18 inches wide beside the refrigerator, with doors that close tightly.
  • Shallow pantry walls with 12 inch deep tall cabinets, where every can and jar is one row deep.
  • Airtight containers for flour, rice, cereal and pet food, which is the most effective way to keep out ants and pantry moths.
  • A dedicated shelf for hurricane season supplies (water, canned food, batteries) so they are easy to check before June 1 and rotate after November 30.

Gaining space above the cabinets

Many older Orlando-area kitchens have soffits above the upper cabinets. Removing a soffit can allow taller uppers or a stacked row, but soffits often hide ductwork, plumbing vents or wiring. We check what is inside before planning taller cabinets. Where the soffit has to stay, a short cabinet or closed shelf can still use part of the space.

Retrofit, refacing or new cabinets?

OptionWhen it makes senseWhat it costs (Orlando-area planning ranges, 2026)
Add organizers to existing cabinetsBoxes are sound and the layout worksDepends on the number and type of organizers
Cabinet refacing plus organizersBoxes are sound but doors look dated$7,000 to $15,000 for an average kitchen, usually 40 to 50 percent less than new cabinets
New cabinetsBoxes are damaged, layout does not work, or you want drawers, a pantry or taller uppersCabinets are usually 30 to 40 percent of a full kitchen budget; a cosmetic refresh runs $15,000 to $35,000 and a mid-range full remodel $35,000 to $75,000

Cabinet refacing is often the best value in Orlando kitchens with solid boxes, and we can replace individual boxes where you want deep drawers or a pull-out pantry. For full replacements and cabinet grades, see our kitchen cabinets page. Swapping cabinets in the same location usually does not need a permit, but plumbing, electrical or wall changes usually do.

How to plan your cabinet storage

  1. Empty one cabinet at a time and note what lives there and how often you use it.
  2. Group by zone: cooking near the range, cleanup near the sink and dishwasher, food near the refrigerator.
  3. Fix the worst cabinet first, usually the blind corner or the sink base.
  4. Measure openings carefully before buying any organizer.
  5. Choose materials for humidity, especially at the sink.

FAQ

Common questions

Do not see your question? Call us or send the estimate form and we will answer it on the phone.

Can I add pull-out shelves to my existing cabinets?

Yes, in most cases. Roll-out shelves mount inside existing base cabinets and pantries as long as the box is square and solid. Measure the opening between the face frame or hinges, not the full cabinet width, because the hinges and frame reduce the space a pull-out can use.

What cabinet organizers hold up best in Florida humidity?

Metal organizers with a coated or stainless finish, solid plastic or polymer bins, and wood or plywood pull-outs with a sealed finish hold up best. Avoid raw particleboard, especially under the sink, where a small leak can swell it. A waterproof liner or tray under the sink adds protection.

How much do custom cabinet storage solutions cost in Orlando?

It depends on how many organizers you add and whether they go into existing cabinets or new ones. Organizers added to existing cabinets are the lowest-cost option. Cabinet refacing runs about $7,000 to $15,000 for an average kitchen, and new cabinets are usually 30 to 40 percent of a full kitchen remodel budget.

Do I need a permit to add cabinet organizers or replace cabinets?

Adding organizers or swapping cabinets in the same location usually does not need a building permit in Orlando-area jurisdictions. Moving plumbing, adding electrical circuits or removing walls usually does. Confirm with your city or county building department before work starts.

How do I keep pests out of kitchen cabinets in Florida?

Store pantry food in airtight containers, wipe shelves regularly, and seal gaps where pipes enter the sink base and where cabinets meet the wall. Closed pull-out pantries with tight-fitting doors are easier to keep clean than open shelving.
